We discovered Calin and his wonderful family by watching a news story that CBS 2 in Los Angeles covered on a family and their efforts to bring the woman who hurt their son to justice. Calin was the victim of SBS (Shaken Baby Syndrome) by the child's caretaker.  We quickly realized that Calin - and his family - would be the perfect first recipient of Holton's Heroes charity.

Calin wasn't even walking at the time his care taker allegedly violently shook him causing irreversible brain damage that he and his family struggle to deal with every day. Calin is making terrific progress but needs a lot of therapy to help bring his life back to the path it was once on and meet his personal milestones.

Calin's parents, Gilbert and Lori, feel their son is ready to start learning to walk as he has terrific leg strength and has shown a desire to take his physical progress to the next level. After a little research, and some guidance by Calin's parents, Holton's Heroes was able to purchase a special walker called the Star Posterior Gait Trainer with Forearm Platforms designed specifically for toddlers like Calin who are ready to begin the long journey towards permanent mobility.

As the description on Calin's Angels Facebook page reads, "In an instant the life of our son, Calin Reed Samora was irrevocably changed," it simply reminds us how precious our short time on this planet is and that we should be holding our loved ones extra close this evening. Take nothing for granted.

To follow their journey visit Calin's Angels or friend Gilbert and Calin on Facebook.

I think what Eric and Angela are doing with Holton’s Heroes is amazing, especially when you consider the fact that they still need a lot of help with their son’s injury.
